How you can make your mark

Boskalis Heavy Lift focuses on the installation of offshore wind turbine foundations with our heavy lift vessels Bokalift 1 and Bokalift 2. Your work will help Boskalis to be competitive in the global wind market. Operations with bubble curtains face several challenges during execution and preparation. The assignment is all about creating a robust, efficient, and effective noise mitigation solution for offshore pile driving and providing the business unit with relevant knowledge / experience related to bubble curtains.
The development of innovative ideas starts at Boskalis Research & Development department. Innovation is crucial to retain our position as a strong and reliable offshore contractor. Supported by the corporate R&D department you will work for the business unit Offshore Heavy Lift, which provides solutions to challenges for offshore installations in renewables and the oil and gas sector.
As an MSc student, you will be part of the team which is responsible for continually investing in the development of new methods and technologies to make our work more sustainable, efficient and effective.
The scope of work for developing the Boskalis Big Bubble Barrier is described below. Within the detail phase a more in-depth investigation can be performed on critical aspects identified in the concept development phase.

Some examples of scope to be covered have been provided below.

• • Identify challenges with the current systems
  • Develop a model to investigate the bubble distribution along the hose
  • Develop different concepts for the bubble curtain system
  • Select the most promising systems for further development
  • Set up measurements or field trials to verify the model of the hose
  • CFD study on air distribution in the column
• Objectives for the study to be related to (a combination of) the following objectives
  • Optimize the system in terms of robustness / reliability - maximizing uptime and minimizing downtime due to (a combination of) breakdowns, weather delays and maintenance.
  • Optimize the system in terms of power requirements and associated emissions
  • Optimize the system in terms of noise mitigation efficiency, efficiency of system based on TU Delft noise propagation model
